丹麥名建築師英格斯（Bjarke Ingels）與他的團隊，期望在該國中部的吉夫斯庫動物園（Givskud Zoo）打造一個屬於動物的理想世界，轉換人類與動物傳統的「獵人和獵物」的角色，遊園者必須被限制在座艙中或固定的地點，才能觀賞動物，提供動物更廣闊自由的空間，尊重牠們的居住權。
和以往動物園大相逕庭，英格斯發揮創意重新打造這個地方，山坡造型的居住地區、發電廠上建有滑雪場、卡通般的合唱聲伴著從地面冒出的博物館、巨大螺旋棒棒糖狀的觀景塔，最重要的是，人類在裡面扮演著「被圈養」的角色。
英格斯計畫要把這個1969年就開幕的老動物園，改頭面成一座動物烏托邦，動物可以自由漫步，不會被關在籠子裡，利用大自然的環境把遊園者「藏起來」，他們可能躲在地底的碉堡中、路邊的原木堆裡，就像是動物版的《楚門的世界》（The Truman Show），121公頃的園區都屬於動物，牠們不會發現人類躲在哪裡偷偷欣賞、觀察自己。
英格斯領導的BIG建築團隊表示：「建築師最重要的任務就是確保一個城市能為不同背景、性別、經濟狀況、文化、教育、年齡的人們提供各種適合他們的框架，使這些人能夠和諧的居住在一起。可想而知，動物園是給建築師最大挑戰的地方。」
建築師想要把參觀者對動物的影響降到最低，因此，參觀者必須躲在山丘下的碉堡中欣賞獅子、透過藏在竹林中的螢幕偷窺貓熊、進入灌木叢中的小屋來觀察熊、在半山腰的洞穴裡遠眺長頸鹿。BIG的建築師說：「我們要盡可能避免平時會看到的建築，像是蘇門答臘的廟宇搭配老虎或者是中國的寶塔搭配貓熊，我們要採用貼近大自然環境的設計，把建築物藏的越隱密越好。」
新設計同時也顛覆傳統動物園的想像，全新改造的藍圖中，動物園中央將會設立一個圓形的廣場，參觀者可以從這裡開始探險，透過蜿蜒的坡道、在河上隨風漂浮的小船、騎乘腳踏車、搭乘纜車等方式，進入不同主題的動物區，參觀者會被藏在一個鏡面的金屬座艙中，避免影響到動物活動。
看著這個動物烏托邦，建築師追求的最終目的是，人類能夠在這些動物享受自由的同時，從中觀察、學習他們的生存模式。BIG建築團隊表示：「說不定犀牛能教我們如何生存，尤其在未來。牠們總是能獨自在野外生存，但是人類卻不一定做得到。」
